In the case of tight budget, ranking is only a preliminary screening. I usually divide by application first: if clinical samples are needed or high scoring articles need to be published, priority should be given to imported brands with more literature citations, such as R&D, Thermo, Abcam, but only buy a few boxes of key indicators, and use domestic supplements for the rest. I can use domestic Lianke, Sizhengbai, and Xinbosheng for inter batch stability in routine cytokine ELISA, but I need to make my own standard curve for each batch and not directly use the range given in the instructions. When buying antibodies, please clarify whether it is a capture/detection pairing or a single purchase, and whether pairing verification data can be provided. In terms of budget, we can negotiate multiple box discounts, but don't hoard too much just for the sake of cheapness. ELISA has an expiration date.

The ranking list can be used as a reference, but it should not be used as a basis for procurement. The top ten reagent companies are mostly ranked by revenue or literature volume, which may not necessarily reflect the inter batch consistency of ELISA kits. Before bulk purchasing in our laboratory, we will ask three suppliers to each send a batch of small samples, using the same set of standard samples and real samples to make parallel plates, focusing on the standard curve recovery rate, low value sample CV, and background. Then ask the sales team to provide written COA and inter batch CV data for the batch, with priority given to providing feedback from third-party users in the past year. Don't just rely on verbal promises for delivery time and after-sales service. Just try the real delivery time from placing an order to receiving the goods, especially the temperature record for cold chain reception.

We've been burned by unstable batches from small brands, so we established a set of procedures: for first-time purchases, we require the supplier to provide CoA and batch-to-batch consistency statements for three batches, then send one batch to a third party or retest it ourselves; after a large shipment arrives, we randomly pull 2-3 boxes for open-box verification, with metrics including standard OD range, high/low quality control recovery rates, and intra-assay and inter-assay CV. Even top-ten companies don't guarantee every product is good, especially for antibodies, where you need to check the clone number and lot. On after-sales, confirm return and exchange conditions in writing, such as whether damaged on arrival, temperature excursions, or performance failures qualify for free replacement. On lead times, import customs clearance can sometimes be unstable, so it's advisable to keep 2-3 weeks of safety stock.

In actual use, the lead times for top-ranked major brands are relatively stable, but their prices are firm, and direct sales from the original manufacturer usually respond slowly. Our approach is to work with regional authorized distributors, have them stock commonly used models, and require cold-chain transport records to accompany the goods. On after-sales service, major brands have standardized return and exchange procedures when batch issues arise, but the cycle is long; small and medium-sized brands may respond faster, but you have to monitor the batch data yourself. For bulk procurement, it is recommended to sign a batch-lock agreement, having the supplier reserve the same lot number in advance and ship in installments, so that even if subsequent batches fluctuate, the current experiment is not affected. When quotes differ too much, be sure to confirm whether they include tax, freight, cold chain, customs clearance, and invoice categories.
