Whether low-cost serum can be used for mesenchymal stem cells cannot be generalized. Some batches culture ordinary cells without problems, but may affect MSC adhesion, karyotype, and trilineage differentiation, with slowed proliferation or spontaneous differentiation after long-term use. It is recommended to first request a 50-100 mL trial sample, run a parallel comparison with the existing serum, test CD73/CD90/CD105 expression, and perform osteogenic, adipogenic, and chondrogenic induction validation. If these indicators show no significant differences after 3 passages, then consider bulk purchasing. A large price difference often comes down to screening costs and batch-to-batch consistency.

Whenever possible, source from the brand owner or the regional first-tier distributor through the channel, and do not obtain from group-buying pools or intermediaries with no traceability. Our team will directly ask three questions: whether there is a dedicated production line for stem cell-grade products; whether a batch-specific MSC growth validation report can be provided; and whether the batch number can be locked and endotoxin retested after arrival. If the vendor only emphasizes that it "works" but does not provide reports, we generally do not use it. Among low-price channels, there may indeed be usable products, but the supplier must be stable and able to track batch numbers. First obtain a small package to run one round of trilineage differentiation screening, and only after confirmation discuss bulk pricing.

Be cautious with low-priced stem cell-grade products. The key is whether they have actually been screened and validated for mesenchymal stem cells, rather than merely claiming low endotoxin and low hemoglobin. I would require the vendor to provide a complete CoA for the batch, including at least endotoxin, hemoglobin, total protein, pH, osmolality, viral testing, country of origin, and blood collection date. If the sales representative does not provide the full report, they are often trying to avoid disclosing a certain parameter. It is best to also request MSC growth validation data from the manufacturer or a third party, especially the doubling time and surface marker ratios at passages 3-5.
